The Glitch Mob – Drink the Sea
May 25, 2010
After raging La Zona Rosa last weekend with Austin being the first city on the tour map with fresh CDs and wax stocked in the merch booth, The Glitch Mob unveils their first long-format LP to the world.
Drink the Sea makes its debut today after a crescendo of activity including months in the studio and a 30 + day tour ramp up. I think the biggest criticism leading up to the release has been a shift in the traditional Glitch Mob-ness of the past as the boys throw live percussion and guitar work into the mix, but eh…. don’t be a hater. Without change there is no growth.
As a fan of their past work, as well as their new evolution in sound, I’m happy to see any artist slather a heaping dose of musicianship on top of an already strong electronic music foundation.
Grinders will crush on Fistful of Silence and Drive It Like You Stole It while others will make it the soundtrack to their commutes, headphone daydreams, and after-dark sound affairs. For those seeking bangers galore and the next anthem to rage, chill out for a second and prepare to go deep…. but stay tuned for the remixes on the way.
Drink the Sea is available in The Glitch Mob store, or you can hunt it down through the usual retail places. Check out the preview below and make up your own mind. Meanwhile, I’ll be in the jacuzzi drinking the sea and toasting the boys to an album well done. Big ups fellas!

This highly anticipated release captures the heat Chip Chop delivers in their live performance: labyrinthine melodies and warping pads over gritty sub threats, all rotating around hooks so subtly white hot you’ll be spitting charcoal when you whistle the filthy synth days later.

Pixies – Where is My Mind (Bassnectar Remix)
December 19, 2009
So busy pushing it out to the world, someone should slap me silly for not spreading the love through my own bloggy blog.
It’s been only 2 days and the track has already swishhhed past Lady Gaga, Radiohead, and Massive Attack to sit pretty in the #1 spot on both Hype Machine’s Popular and Twitter Charts.
But before snatching the download, also pay tribute to the original makers and visit The Pixie’s site an cop some of their new (and FREE) drops as well —> http://www.pixiesmusic.com
An anthem for living life at a dizzying pace, but refusing to slow down, obviously influenced by the legendary rock band THE PIXIES, this bootleg was 1 of the secret weapons of almost every show on the Cozza Frenzy tour, and now its yours for free:
Happy New Year! Merry Xmas! Happy Hanukkah! Joyous Atheism! Enraptured Humanism! Do as thou will, and blast this track!
“This is just a simple chunk of bass and beats, probably not dubstep because it is 20 bpm faster, probably not D&B because it doesn’t follow the rules, but its thick and deep and it should be yours. If you are a DJ and want a nice instrumental banger for your sets, this jam has some heavy bass and a nice clean beat loop at the beginning running at 85 bpm…perfect to thicken up any hip hop, drum & bass, dub, downtempo or dubstep track, also a nice little acapella synth at the end… — L”

New from Amorphous Music and Child’s Play Records, the long-awaited debut album from Bassnectar. From Coldtown to Terp2It – Chris Trew
December 4, 2008
Improv, stand-up, and sketch comedian, nerdcore rapper, filmmaker, graphic designer, and Artistic Director at Austin’s ColdTowne Theater…. Geezus H. I’m all the sudden feeling like a complete slacker with my day job, record label, music blog, teaching engagements, and artist management endeavors. One would assume that Crew Trew doesn’t sleep. But I suspect that he outsources some of the workload to his mustache.
Oh, yes. The mustache plays. And coupled with a WWF-style belt and robe, it is no wonder that he unveils the the truth in track 12 of his latest Terp 2 It release, My Wiener Touches the Ceiling - “This Is Not a Mustache.” (Ah ha. I knew it!)
