Drink the Sea makes its debut today after a crescendo of activity including months in the studio and a 30 + day tour ramp up. I think the biggest criticism leading up to the release has been a shift in the traditional Glitch Mob-ness of the past as the boys throw live percussion and guitar work into the mix, but eh…. don’t be a hater. Without change there is no growth.

As a fan of their past work, as well as their new evolution in sound, I’m happy to see any artist  slather a heaping dose of musicianship on top of an already strong electronic music foundation.

Grinders will crush on Fistful of Silence and Drive It Like You Stole It while others will make it the soundtrack to their commutes, headphone daydreams, and after-dark sound affairs. For those seeking bangers galore and the next anthem to rage, chill out for a second and prepare to go deep…. but stay tuned for the remixes on the way.

Ill Gates is the new moniker of Canadian breaks producer The Phat Conductor.

He’s been producing music with the likes of Bassnectar, Si-Begg and a ton of others and has put together a brilliant lecture/workshop which can increase your skills and productivity massively in all sorts of areas by making you more efficient and teaching you how to not only write tunes, but to complete them and make them high quality.

Like many of the emerging US/Canadian glitch-hop scene, Gates favours Ableton live for performance and production, and he will show you how to set up racks (combinations of instruments and effects presets), “Sampler 128’s” (pre-loaded banks of samples which massively speed up sound selection for your tunes while at the same time giving you much greater control in sound design), use of Ableton for live performance/DJ sets, and techniques to get your creative parts of the brain to the forefront, so that you get to finish songs quickly without sacrificing quality, while keeping your music fresh.

There will be a circus-style midway laced with performers that will lead to the main stage where the musicians and DJs will entice your body to dance till you drop…or laugh till your face hurts! So don your top hats or bowlers, dust off your goggles and set your pocket watches because on May 15th we travel to a realm of mind-blowing, nostalgic fantasy that you’ll never forget.

The line up includes performers like the Elemental Uprising Fire Troupe, 999 Eyes Museum of Mutantsrosities, Mr. Cirque, Schave & Reilly, Carousel Cabaret, and Brass Ovaries Pole Dancers, as well as music performances by White Ghost Shivers, Lions, Minor Mishap Marching Band.

The group is no stranger to the lone star capital, performing solo as Ooah, Boreta, and edIT at some of the largest freakshow parties at Enchanted Forest. More recently, they have sold out ragers at The Parish and Ace’s Lounge. A full La Zona experience is long overdue.

But new to the Austin line-up is special guest Chris Alfaro, aka Feed the Robots. The genre-defying artist pulls together heavy doses of traditional jazz, psych, electronic and hip-hop, with progressive melodies and devastating drums into a rich pot of sound. His techniques create harmony between genres with the blending of obscure samples with analog and digital compositions. Free the Robots Has shared the stage with the likes of Prefuse 73, Flying Lotus, the Glitch Mob, Afrika Bambaataa and more.

Warming up the stage for Free the Robots we have Deru, also known as L.A.-based artist Benjamin Wynn. His compositions find hip-hop and electronic music linking hands, while dipping more than a toe in the ambient and classical pools.
