See-I & Members of Thievery at Antone's
April 29, 2009
On Friday, May 15, 2008, SEE-I visits our little music capital of the world for a special performance at Antone’s. If your not familiar with the band yet (shame on you), maybe this will put things into context: 4 of the 8-member roots reggae band tour regularly with Thievery Corporation with others contributing to the the sound of Austin favorite’s Fort Knox and Thunderball.
The roots reggae outfit, anchored by vocalists Rootz and Zeebo, is a regular fixture at the Eighteenth Street Lounge in Washington, DC, but recent bookings have included the Virgin Festival, Artscape, and Dubwise Sessions in Brooklyn.
While reggae is their thing, expect inflections of blues, Latin, soul, funk and Brazilian beats in the mix. The sound is best described by hitting the little “play” button below. (Don’t be scared…. press it.)
And, while I’ve still got your attention, click over and check out their latest single Meet Joe Green at Dancetracks.
The Antone’s show is an all-ages event starting at 9:00pm. Advanced tickets are only $15… $17 for the procrastinators among the reading circle. Antone’s is located at 213 W. 5th St. in Austin’s warehouse district. Austin-based ARCHITEKTUR will be opening up the set. Click here to see who else is going at Do512.
About SEE-I
SEE-I is an 8-piece roots reggae band from Washington, DC. While SEE-I is a solid reggae band, there are many other influences that can be heard in the music ranging from blues to rock, latin, soul, funk and brazilian beats. This makes sense because of the variety of bands that the SEE-I band members hail from. 4 of the 8 members are part of Thievery Corporation and other bands represented include All Mighty Senators, Fort Knox Five, Sin Miedo, Thunderball, Nayas, International Velvet, Soul Brazil and others. All of these experiences and influences combine on stage to create a unique sound that can best be described as a reggae jam band. SEE-I delivers a positive vibe that keeps the dancefloor packed and grooving all night with smiles on everyone’s faces. Visit www.myspace.com/seei to befriend, or start stalking them on twitter @seei

Are You Shpongled?
April 2, 2009
With so many references to Austin as being a satellite sister to the San Francisco and the northern California music scene (as well as the mass migration of Austinites during California’s festival season), the promise of a awakening event reminds me that they don’t come often enough in this neck of the woods. Maybe the recent arrival of friends from California, with their stories of beach-side ragers and redwood forest escapades, has made me yearn for something more symbiotic a lifestyle where it’s not only conducive to tune your mind to the sights and sounds of the music around you, it’s required.
On Friday, May 1st, 2009, a myriad of colors and sounds will fall upon the halls of the Parish to melt a chaos of multi-formed consciousness into a single, harmonic rage. The journey masters for the evening? UK psychedelic music adventurers Shpongle brought to you by Euphonic Conceptions and HCB Productions.
From a completely different promoter, but very well written:
Do away with genre specific ideas you may have about music and
open yourself to be Shpongled. Shpongle is an experience unique
to itself that will redefine your innermost understanding of
melodic compositions, and lift you far beyond consciousness into
the pulsing universe that cradles you. Ask yourself one
questions… Are You Shpongled?
Presale tickets are available for $20… and its $5 bucks more if you want for the door. The Parish is located at 214 E. 6th St. in downtown Austin.
