From Angeliska:

I am very excited about this party- it’s an insanely good line up of some of my favorite people, and I am so ready to dance! Having Golem and the Minor Mishap Marching Band on the bill is so fantastic- I love bringing the balkan and the brass.. ..And then there’s the booty bounce! I am officially obsessed- there’s some amazing shit happening down in New Orleans, and it’s coming over here! My dear friend J. (aka DJ Rusty Lazer) turned me on to NOLA Bounce (and Sissy Bounce especially) awhile back, and he’s been out spreading the word far and wide.. Check out his writing about it here: Popping My New Orleans Sissy Bounce Cherry! and here: Sissy Bounce Sweetheart’s Ball I really loved this bit from him also:
“I hope that people say the thing they feel the most when they come to anything I’m involved with is a sense that, no matter what’s happening on stage or otherwise, they feel free to do whatever they want without any tingling judgment sensations. It’s probably why I like Sissy Bounce so much. To bring your overwhelmingly queer style out to a pretty brutal town like New Orleans and have it be accepted at all is testament enough to your power as a performer…but to transcend that acceptance and actually begin to redefine what a genre like Bounce is… well that’s something else altogether. And then to take that one step further and be generally indifferent to the boy/girl dichotomy by declaring yourselves “sissies” (and nothing more) is pure Dirty South gold to me.”
Check out our pal Lefty’s Sissy Bounce Mixtape! if you want an introduction to the music.. His girl Miss Alison wrote an article about Sissy Bounce for the Gambit that’s definitely worth reading as well..
I so wish I had been at this show.. I love the part near the end when J. drags Miss Altercation up on stage to show what she can do! She’s coming to Austin to teach us all some moves, y’all! I’m so excited- learning to booty bounce is one of my all time number one goals. I have so much awe and respect for those I know who have mastered the extremely precise muscle isolation required to make it work!
Sissy Nobby and the Rumpshakers always put me in a good mood!
Just to give you an idea of the kind of spectacle Minor Mishap is capable of.. I can’t wait!

Michna:
G
rowing up in both NY and Miami, Michna (real name: Adrian Michna) is that unique breed of artist that draws from both the urban and the tropical. As a youngster, Adrian started DJing parties with cassettes and playing trombone in a band on the NYC bar circuit including the infamous Lion’s Den and CBGB’s.
Honey Claws :
In the immortal words of the immortal Kool and the Gang, “There’s a party goin’ on right here, a celebration to last throughout the years.” Open the front door and let in the noise. Honey Claws’ debut is crunked-to-the-ceiling psychedelic, experimental hip-hop with a heart of gold. It’s ninjas with mixers and keyboards, weird acidhead interludes, ice-cold margaritas gulped down at the drum break, hands in the motherfuckin’ AIR. Over the course of 49 minutes witness the Austin-based band bring out the animal in themselves and, through some kind of bass-heavy, titty-shakin’ osmosis, bring it out in you too. Go buckwild. Go get clawed.
Arts the Beatdoctor (Netherlands)
Residents in the area of Hilversum, The Netherlands, have reported seeing a certain shady figure lurking about the local hospital. This individual is dressed in some sort of freakish doctors’ attire, including coat, stethoscope and a scalpel the size of a small sword. It’s rumored that he has been able to infiltrate the medical staff, referring to himself as ‘a new kind of medical expert’ called a ‘Beatdoctor’. All that is known so far is that he goes about the hospital, indiscriminately prescribing unhealthy doses of cinematic, dark and melancholic hip-hop beats to unsuspecting patients. When confronted with these reports, the medical staff has been quick to distance itself from the practices of this shadowy individual, describing his brand of medicine as ‘unusual’, ‘evocative’, and in some cases even ‘dangerous’. The point of his experimental treatments, and the side-effects they might have for his test subjects have seen rampant speculation from keen observers in the field.

Make Music Talk Music SXSW Interactive Party
March 11, 2009
An SXSW Interactive primer before the music conference crushes this little Austin city…
MakeMusic | TalkMusic SXSW Interactive party features indie pop rockers Peel along with hyperelectronic disco dealer MVSCLZ and Neiliyo at the Beaty Bar on Saturday, March 14th.
So yeah… there is music. But it’s SXSW. Plenty of that to go around. But hold on to your soldering irons, there’s more….
A Make geek to the core, I’ll favor any show that supports getting circuit bent. Bleep Labs and Make Magazine sponsor the shin dig, so expect some geekery thrown into the mix. After all, this is the same group that gave us the Furby Youth Choir a few weeks back at the Fifth Gallery. Conscience of the fusion of technology and style, they are a group to follow through the SXSW Interactive experience.
The Beauty Bar is located near Austin’s Red River district at 617 E. 7th St. It all gets bent at 10:00pm. FREE PARTY.
